At the Supreme Court at Philadelphia, Sept-Oct sessions of 1765, Lorentz, Henry, and Garret Schollenberger took the oath of allegiance and are listed in Naturalization of Foreign Protestants. They were all of Greenwich Twp. (Berks Co. Naturalizations, 1752-1772 in Journal of Berks Co. Genealogical Society Vol. 8 #4 & 5 1988). Henry Schollenberger was on Greenwich Twp., Berks County, PA tax list of 1767-1768, then moved to Colebrookdale 1776-1784. Census: 1790 in Lurgan Township, Franklin County, PA; 1800 in Lurgan Township, Franklin County, PA. Henry married Catherine. They had the following children:
Second Generation 2. Benjamin Shullenbarger (Henry) was born 8 Jun 1777. (Information on Henry and his connection to the family is unverified.) He died 8 Sep 1850 and was buried in Shoemaker Graveyard, Hopewell Twp., Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, according to "A Few Old Cemeteries, Cumberland Valley Chronicles". Benjamin's will was signed 13 Sep 1850 in Register of Wills, Cumberland County, PA. His headstone lists the name as SHULLENBARGER. Benjamin Shulenberger by occupation was a farmer and a distiller(vinegar). He was a member of the Pennsylvania Militia and served during the Whiskey Rebellion. By the time this group got to the scene of conflict the trouble was over, so the group marched back home. Benjamin and Elizabeth reared the family in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania near the town of Newburg. They were members of the German Reformed Church and attended and were very active at Mt. He died 8 Jan 1875 and was buried in Zion Church Cemetery, Hopewell Twp., Cumberland County, PA.. This John Shulenberger is assumed to have been a trustee of the Zion Church, Hopewell Twp, Cumberland County (Near Newburg) "was born on the home farm in Hopewell Twp., was reared a farmer, obtaining such literary education as was to be secured in the district schools of his day. Later he bought the old Bell farm of 300 acres in Mifflin Twp. and followed farming all his life, prospering greatly. "In 1857 his first wife died, and later in the same year, John Shulenberger married Catherine Shuman, who bore him five children, four of whom died in infancy, and David is a resident of Shippensburg. John Shulenberger bought a farm of 200 acres in Mifflin Twp, where he erected handsome buildings and made many fine improvements." 7. Samuel B. Shulenberger (Benjamin Shullenbarger, Henry) was born 14 Oct 1813 in Hopewell Twp, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania (Newville). He died 1845 and was buried in Prospect Hill, (2 miles east of) Newville, PA. From a letter: " I know that they lived in Shippensburg and later moved to Marysville, Missouri." "In 1845 there must have been an epidemic because both Samuel and his eldest daughter died" Samuel's son Benjamin "had bodies of his parents raised from where they were originally buried and reburied in Prospect Hill Cemetery, about two miles east of Newville. This cemetery was formerly known as the Odd Fellows cemetery and is the oldest incorporated cemetery I know of in this area. A monument is marked "S. B. Shulenberger 1813-1845 and his wife M. W. Shulenberger 1814-1885". This means that despite the second marriage, Benjamin reburied his mother in the Shulenberger name." John B. Shulenberger was a teacher and a farmer. A member of the 158th Regiment until he was stricken with Typhoid Fever which he suffered for months. He was a democrat in politics and served two terms as Director of the poor. He was a very active member of the MT. Zion Reformed Church and an elder in the Reformed Church at Newburg, Pa. for twenty years. John married Martha Susan Adams on 22 Dec 1859. Martha was born 27 Sep 1841. She died 16 Feb 1925 in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. They had the following children:
20. William C. Bennett , (Rev.) Shulenberger (John S. Shulenberger, Benjamin Shullenbarger, Henry) was born 7 Aug 1837 in Upper Mifflin Twp, Newburg, Pennsylvania. He died 28 Mar 1912 in Hagerstown, Maryland. William C.B. Shulenberger grew up on his father's farm in Cumberland County, Pa. and received his education in the public school of the county. When he attained his majority, he left home and going to Illinois, taught successfully of four years in Lacon, Il. During the Civil War, William returned to PA and entered the Theological Seminary of the Reformed Church, then located in Mercersburg, PA, from which he graduated in 1868. His first charge was in St. Thomas, Franklin County, PA. Then later relocated at Middleburg, VA for two years. After devoting one year to missionary work in Scottsdale, PA., he was called to St. Petersburg, where he was happily situated for nine years. He subsequently spent two years in West Alexandria, Ohio; seven years in Shelby, Ohio; and two years in Lancaster City, Ohio. In 1895, William was called to charge at Emmitsburg, Maryland. The old church there was founded over two hundred years ago, and was a Union church in the beginning. The congregations finally divided, by mutual consent, the Lutherans retaining the old building, and the members of the Reformed Church erecting a new building. The Rev. Shulenberger accomplished a great deal of work here in his chosen vocation. Devoted, heart and soul to the noble work to which he dedicated his life, he exerted a powerful influence for good, leading men to think higher things than the mere material progress and the acquisition of wealth. He won the confidence, love, and respect from his entire community. Following the example of his father, his ballot was cast for the nominee of the Democratic party. William married Sarah (Sallie) N. Martin on 23 Nov 1876. Sarah was born in Martinsburg, West Virginia. Sarah Martin was the daughter of S. H. and Rachel Martin, of Martinsburg, West Virginia. Her father, who was a prominent figure of the Martinsburg, Merchants, was agent for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad in that place for seventeen years. Mrs. Shulenberger's uncle was a wealthy citizen of Hagerstown, MD. William and Sarah had the following children:

She died 22 Mar 1889 in Zion Church, Hopewell Twp, Cumberland County, Pa.. Elizabeth married Adam McClellan Heberlig on 17 Apr 1856 in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. 23. Adam A. Shulenberger (John S. Shulenberger, Benjamin Shullenbarger, Henry) was born 7 Dec 1842 in Newburg, Hopewell Twp., Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. He died 11 Oct 1928 in Rev. L. F. Sweetland Robb Cemetery, S. E. Lexington, Nebraska. Mr. and Mrs Adam Shulenberger spent their early life in Cumberland County, PA. They moved to Clinton County Mo., in 1878, and to Filmore County, Nebraska, in 1887, from there to Butler County, Mo. in 1895, and to Shell City, Mo., in 1898, and to Lexington, Neb., in the spring of 1907. Adam Shulenberger was a long standing member of the Reformed Church and later in his life joined the Presbyterian church of Missouri and two years later joined the church at Lexington, Neb. He prepared himself for teaching and taught for seventeen years in Newburg, Pa. (known today as the old potato school, which was moved from Newburg to the Shippensburg University in Shippensburg, Pa.) Adam married (1) Margaret J. Mowery on 1867. Margaret died 29 Mar 1869. They had the following children:

24. Robert Ewing Shulenberger (John S. Shulenberger, Benjamin Shullenbarger, Henry) was born 19 Oct 1844 in Mifflin Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. He died 21 Sep 1901 and was buried in Zion Church Cemetery, Newburg, Mifflin Twp., Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. Notes from Cumberland County history: "The late Robert E. Shulenberger was a youth of active mind, and he secured a good education in the district schools, growing into a young man of more than the usual intelligence and information. In addition to farming, he became a skilled veterinary surgeon, although he had no medical opportunities. He was so successful that his time was filled with professional engagements, whenever he could be spared from the farm. After his marriage he settled in Mifflin Twp, , and at his father's death, he bought 176 acres of the family estate. He continued to improve this place, making it one of the finest farms of the township, and there his death took place, 21 Sept, 1901. His burial was at Zion Church in Hopewell Twp. Few men were more highly respected, or more sadly missed, than Robert Shulenberger. In 1880 he was elected justice of the peace, and served faithfully in this office until his death, a period of twenty-one years, and was just entering upon another term. For six years he was a school director, was also auditor, served on the election board, and in fact was one chosen by his fellow citizens to fill the offices of trust and responsibility. Future examiners of the township records will have no occasion to ask what kind of man was Robert Shulenberger, for they will find his name standing for honesty and integrity. and for the faithful performance of public business. A consistent and active member of the Reformed Church, Mr Shulenberger possessed the happy faculty of making his religion so bright and so real that instead of turning the youthful from it, he was noted for his influence with the young. He had charge of the children's department of the church, and was universally beloved by them, and his influence will long be apparent." Robert married Sarah Belle Clippenger on 1872. Sarah was born 1854. She died 1926 in Zion Church Cemetery, Newburg, Hopewell Twp., Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. Robert and Sarah had the following children:
25. Anthony , (Rev) Shulenberger (John S. Shulenberger, Benjamin Shullenbarger, Henry) was born 19 Feb 1848. He died 21 Jan 1928 and was buried in Greenlawn Cemetery, China Grove, Rowan County, North Carolina. Anthony Shulenberger received his education in the district school of Cumberland County, PA.. He concentrated on becoming a minister for the Reformed Church. At a meeting held 20 Aug. 1876, Rev. Shuleberger was unanimously elected pastor , a call was extended and accepted and he entered upon his pastoral work; 1 Oct 1876. Rev. Shulenberger served his charge until Nov 1894. During his pastorate the Reformed Church sold it's interest in the old church to the Lutherans. then erected a new church at Centerville, Frederick County, Maryland. While he was in charge, the debt of $2,000. 00 for the new church was greatly reduced. The Rev. Shulenberger moved his family from Frederick County Maryland, to Virginia, where he took charge of another Reformed Church. Later, the family moved from Virginia to China Grove, Rowan County, N.C., where he served his pastorate at the Mt. Zion Reformed Church in China Grove. He served Mt. Zion faithfully until his death. He died quietly at his home in Landis of a heart attack on January 21, 1928. He was in his eighties. Anthony married Rebekah Ellen Myers on Jan 1875. Rebekah was born 15 Oct 1853. She died 26 Apr 1911 and was buried in Greenlawn Cemetery, China Grove, Rowan County, North Carolina. They had the following children:

38. Benjamin Ewing Shulenberger (Benjamin Shulenberger, John S. Shulenberger, Benjamin Shullenbarger, Henry) died in Boiling Springs (near Lutztown Road), Cumberland County, Pa.. According to Gayle Shulenberger Janowitz, Benjamin had a large white beard and when visiting in South Dakota, the children would peek around trees and argue about his being Santa Claus. He would send word that he wanted Melvin Shulenberger to come and visit with him. Melvin would get on the bus and when he walked in a couple of days later, Benjamin would always say, "My, you got here fast". Benjamin was blind for many years before he died. He sold his place and got permission to live in a small house and they took care of him. He kept wanting Melvin Shulenberger to come east (from S.D.) and take over his farm before he made this arrangement. Benjamin married Ellen Wolfe. Ellen died in Boiling Springs (near Lutztown Road), Cumberland County, Pa.. They had the following children:
