Following are excerpts from Egle's Notes and Queries:

history submissions from several counties around Dauphin. Later, Egle
compiled the articles into volumes. Eva Draegert Schory, PhD, created
the Everyname Index to Egle's Notes and Queries making this valuable

Paper read before the Dauphin County Historical Society by Theodore
B Klein. -- Neighbors for years were found in the family of Daniel
Shellenberger, who left the rural home of his forefathers in the
Hanovers to try his fortune in the Capital town of the State. After
a little while, he bravely settled in its busy center, in the place
vacated by the publisher, Barnes, and entered the lists in business,
doing what he could to keep the community tidy and well clothed. His
efforts were successful, and he took his place among the financiers
of his day, and was classed with the prudent investors and conservative
advisors in the management of our monied institutions. His family almost
equaled in number that of his neighbor, and Henry and Augustus,
and Mary, and Esther, and Ellen, and Edwin
survived the parents, and in various directions filled, or are filling,
the mission assigned by the Director of Humanity in the paths of life.
- Vol. 1899, pg. 187: Baptismal Records of the "Little Tupehocken
Church" or Christ Church, Jefferson Twp, Berks County; Catharine
Shelleberger was the sponsor for Joh. Jacob Friess b. 9 Feb. 1756
baptized 18 Jan 1757.
- Vol. 1900. pg 121, 122: Lists of Swiss emigrants to Pennsylvania as
found in a pamphlet entitled,"The Limping Messenger from Carolina,
or the description of a journey from Zurich to Rotterdam by Ludwig Weber
from Wallisellen, etx.; Zurich, 1735. 8vo. pp.32." contributed
to Egle's column by Rev. William J. Hinke. The names of those who have
registered to go to Pennsylvania, the places being arranged in alphabetical
order. Includes "Flunteren, Jacob Schellenberg, with his
servant." and "Wallisellen, Martin Schellenberg."
The colony left Zurich in October, 1734, and arrived in Philadelphia
on May 29th, 1735, on the ship Mercury. Both these were found on the
ship's list. The colony was led by Rev. Maurice Goetschy, of Zurich,
who died on the day of arrival. Both Henry Goetschy and Conrad Wuertz,
who head the ship's list, became ministers of the German Reformed Church.
For the history of this colony see Dr. Good's History of the Reformed
Church in the U. S., pp. 171 0 189.

In October and November of 2000, Laura Deibler Darr posted a list of
deaths from the Millersburg area of the Dauphin County List. The list
was originally compiled by her father's great aunt. Laura relates that
"My father had a great aunt, Katherine E. Schaeffer Ditty (1868-1943),
who was a widower for many years, and had no children. She was a compulsive
note writer. I have a notebook of hers into which she wrote deaths in
the Millersburg area for the years 1914-1926."
1923 SHELLENBERGER, David E., died Nov. 20, buried 23. Rev. Christ.
